Returning participant Briana Mao shares her story and gives advice to “first timers”

Mao and O’Meara at the 2009 First Tee Open at Pebble Beach

Last year I felt fortunate to have the chance to play with Mr. Mark O’Meara. He was a great mentor for the 3 days we got to play together; he helped me feel at ease by talking with me about how to handle stress in tournaments and deal with challenging moments on the golf course.  Being able to walk alongside Mr. O’Meara inside the ropes was such an honor, especially in the final group on the final day.

This year I am so excited to have the opportunity to play in The First Tee Open again. In order to get ready for this tournament, I’ve been playing tournaments all summer to prepare my game and working on my fitness. My advice for the juniors playing The First Tee Open for the first time is to take the time to enjoy every moment of the experience by getting to know all the other juniors participating, the tour professionals and amateurs, and all of the volunteers.  This experience will not only create lifetime memories, but also lifetime friendships.
